Specialist (SPC) Hayden Charles Mangrum, 21, of the United States Army, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Originally from Pelham, North Carolina, Hayden was born on June 30, 2004, in Georgia to the late Joseph Earl Mangrum and the late Kelli Reynolds Woodson. During his service, he served as an ammunition supply specialist, contributing his dedication and discipline to the U.S. Army.
A graduate of Dan River High School, class of 2022, SPC Mangrum was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and an avid supporter of Duke basketball. He cherished spending time outdoors fishing, and valued every moment shared with family and friends. Hayden’s faith played an important role in his life, and he was an active member of Lively Stones Baptist Church. Those who knew him recall his kindness, loyalty, and the positive energy he brought to every interaction.
He is survived by his fiancée, Kyndall Walker; sister, Kaylli Woodson; brothers, Hunter and Holden Mangrum (Carrie); special cousins Madison and Jacob Pyrtle and Tanner Gregory; special aunt Kari Pyrtle and uncle Scott Powell; special niece Kathryn Mangrum and nephews Joseph Mangrum and Mateo Gregory. He is also survived by his soon-to-be mother-in-law, Jennifer Norton, and father-in-law, Brad Norton, along with soon-to-be siblings-in-law, Jaydyn Walker (R.J. Richardson, Jr.), Alexandria Norton (Lindee Brevard), and Landon Norton (Cassidy Shoffner). Hayden was predeceased by Kyndall’s brother, Brenton Walker.
Visitation for friends and family will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel, Danville, VA, followed by an additional visitation Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Lively Stones Baptist Church in Pelham, NC. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Lively Stones Baptist Church Cemetery.
SPC Hayden Charles Mangrum will be remembered for his service, his faith, and the love he shared with his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
