Amherst Lockdown Today – Amherst Students Evacuated as Bomb Threats Trigger Regional School Alerts

Several school districts in Northeast Ohio faced bomb threats on Thursday, prompting evacuations, lockdowns, and police investigations. Officials reported no injuries, and all threats are under investigation.

In Amherst, Marion L. Steele High School and Nord Middle School were placed on “level 1” lockdown after receiving threats. Amherst police and fire personnel conducted thorough sweeps of both schools. Nord Middle School was cleared by 12:30 p.m., and students were safely escorted back inside. Steele High School was still undergoing interior checks while students and staff remained secured in safe locations. Amherst Junior High and Powers Elementary were cleared earlier, and all afternoon and evening activities continued as scheduled.

In Alliance, police said Alliance High School received an anonymous robocall claiming that 20 pipe bombs were placed outside the building. The middle school also received a call. Both buildings were evacuated for about 20–30 minutes while investigators flew drones, checked the perimeter, and confirmed the schools were safe before students returned.

At Lorain High School, the building was evacuated around 12:40 p.m. due to a bomb threat. Students were dismissed for the day, with bus riders escorted to waiting buses and walkers sent home. Elementary and middle school students attending a dance showcase were transported back to their home schools. All afternoon and after-school activities were canceled as a precaution.

Shaker Heights High School received its second threatening call of the week. After assessing the threat, police allowed normal school operations to continue, while additional officers and a canine unit were deployed to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, the Orrville City School District was placed on a soft lockdown due to an unrelated incident outside the town, following law enforcement guidance.

Authorities across the region continue to investigate the threats, urging families and students to remain vigilant while following safety protocols to keep everyone secure.
