Massachusetts is mourning the tragic loss of State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, who died in the line of duty following a devastating wrong-way crash in the early hours of Wednesday, May 6, 2026. His death has left a profound impact on colleagues, loved ones, and communities across the state.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Route 1 in Lynnfield. Trooper Trainor had responded to reports of a wrong-way driver traveling along the highway. While assisting with the emergency, his cruiser was struck by a Jeep traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

Trainor was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash led to the temporary closure of Route 1 northbound near Walnut Street in Saugus as investigators processed the scene. The roadway was later reopened.
