A routine afternoon in rural Rock County turned tragic when a two-vehicle collision at a busy intersection claimed the life of Robert L. Fucilla, 80, of San Mateo, California. Fucilla, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead after being extricated and transported to Mercy Hospital in Janesville.
According to preliminary reports from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at the junction of South County Trunk G and the West Highway 11 Bypass. A vehicle driven by a 48-year-old Janesville man attempting a turn collided with a truck driven by a 32-year-old Beloit man. The impact severely damaged the passenger side of the Janesville man’s car, where Fucilla was seated.
First responders from the Town of La Prairie Fire Department, Rock County deputies, and paramedics worked to extricate Fucilla using hydraulic rescue tools.
